I love to read and want to instill that love in children.
If only every parent could realize that when a child sees you reading, you are inspiring that child to read!
In 2014 I took a course at my church called, "Experiencing God". It made me realize that I need to pray for guidance from God rather than make decisions on my own. That I am called to join God where He is already working! Well, apparently I lost sight of what I learned in that course! I decided after retiring that I would start a foundation called "One Starfish" and go into neighborhoods teaching parents how to support their children in learning how to read. I tried first one avenue and then another and was hitting brick walls! It was all about Me instead of listening and joining in His work! It is now 2016 and I decided to read "Experiencing God" again. I have been volunteering at Family Promise which is a church lead program for lifting families out of homelessness. One of the requirements for participation is having children under 18. Children who often do not have books to read at "home" and may have had a sketchy history of attendance in school. God is already working in this program and there are the parents and children that I can support! I will start by providing books for them to read!
